Celery Gimlet

Getting bored of simple spirit-based cocktails? Get down and boogy, because this is your antidote. This is a cocktail that we got immediately excited to write up as soon as we made it and sipped it. There’s salt, there’s vinegar, there’s a vegetal celery note, and some herbaceous chartreuse. Funky and supremely unique, what every cocktail nerd wants.

We tried a few variants on the recipe originally posted by Saveur (including agricole rum as the base spirit), but ended up finding the Martin Miller’s gin the most favorable for the slight flowery sweetness it lends to the drink.

The end result is a vegetal drink that appears at first blush to be a gimlet, but tastes almost like a bloody mary lite. And with all the celery in the drink (and by eating the garnish), you can feel smugly healthy because celery is a superfood. Salud!

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Gin
  • .25 oz Green Chartreuse
  • 2 dashes Celery Bitters
  • .75 oz Lime Juice
  • .5 oz Simple Syrup
  • .125 oz White Wine Vinegar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 Celery Stalk, roughly cut into 1/2 inch slivers with another mini stalk to garnish

Glass

Old Fashioned Glass

Instructions

  • Muddle your celery in the bottom of your cocktail shaker until it stops crunching, about 1 minute.
  • Add the rest of your ingredients, ice, and shake and strain.
  • Garnish with a celery stalk
