Smoother than a Horse on Skates

We are constantly scouring the whisky shelves for bottle kills, which frees up the space for new acquisitions. Because we recently finished our review of EH Taylor and it was clinging to life, we started looking for bourbon-based cocktails to try. The experiment of a Frisco from Imbibe with bourbon instead of rye had turned out disastrous and overly sour, but another one (also from Imbibe) called “Smoother than a Horse on Skates” by Jennifer Cormier in Bar Kismet (Nova Scotia, Canada) was stunning. Sidenote: Judging by the name of the cocktail, there is little surprise that this originated from Nova Scotia.

I didn’t have any Luxardo Bitter Bianco so I ended up using Lillet, but I really enjoy the result. It’s herbal, balanced, and incredibly complex without being too saccharine.

Smoother than a Horse on Skates

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Bourbon
  • .75 oz Luxardo Bitter Bianco (I used Lillet however)
  • .25 oz Yellow Chartreuse
  • 3 Dashes Orange Bitters

Glass

Cocktail Glass (or cute little Belgian tasting glass)

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a mixing glass and stir.
  • Garnish with an edible flower (thanks Aerogarden).
