Can’t afford Pappy van Winkle? It has become a notoriously difficult-to-procure whisky, with liquor stores either providing a bottle through a lottery system or simply marking them up to eye-gouging $1k+ prices. You can travel the globe scouring for it – but even the smallest mom and pop shop in a quiet European or Asian village will still know enough to not give it away at MSRP.
Because it is produced at the same distillery and is actually even the same distillate (Weller’s is simply what did not make the cut for Pappy), Weller’s is often seen as a good alternative. In fact, there is a now well-known recipe for “Poor Man’s Pappy”: a blend of 60% Old Weller Antique 107 and 40% W.L. Weller 12 year.
Problem is that Poor Man’s Pappy is a bit more like “Middle Class” Man’s Pappy. Although suggested retail prices are around $20-30 for Wellers, they’re almost impossible to find at MSRP. Nowadays, you find them for $100-200 on secondary.
Aaron Goldfarb (writer of Hacking Whisky) tried to then create another version: Poor-ER Man’s Pappy with some wheated bourbons. He came up with a simple ratio: 2/3 Maker’s Cask Strength and 1/3 Larcency. I already had Maker’s Mark on hand, but ended up buying (and subsequently unexpectedly loving) the Larceny. I have not tried enough Pappy’s to tell whether or not this is a Pappy’s dupe – but I do enjoy it.

This is a nice way of finding a new taste but in my place the boat are not available, can try this same with Woodford reserve and maker's mark (not CS). If you have tried let me know I will purchase it and also try it out.
Here we don't get sample packs or small packs and cost of WF is $107 and MM is $72 apprx which is slightly high for NAS.
Whoa, that's really expensive for MM and WF. I'd recommend holding off on it if it's that expensive. Do you have Larceny where you live at all? I don't think I'd drop $180 to try this.
