Edradour was my favorite destination from our whirlwind tour of Scotland. The tiny distillery, features “Scotland’s smallest stills,” while the tasting room is replete with dozens of unique bottlings. While specialty liquor stores will usually carry the main Edradour’s core range scotches, including the peated Ballechin, finding some of their specialty casks can be tough, but I assure you it’s worth the challenge. They’re some of the most unique and interesting whiskies on the market. The Chardonnay cask line is a standout. With 5 years in the barrel, it’s not shy about its parentage.
Summary
Nose: Wine gummies, wooden floor boards and attics, Champagne flavored gummy bears, lemon meringue. Lime and citrus, faint malt, heavy chalky Chardonnay notes. Palate: Bright and juicy, oranges, lemons, citrus followed by milk chocolate and caramel. Not subtle about the Chardonay. You get it starting in the mid palate, like a very oaky white wine. Not tannic. Finish is dry and chalky. Very long.
