We liked the Glengoyne 10 so much we grabbed a bottle of its older brother, the 21. For the unacquainted, Glengoyne is a malt distillery just half an hour from Glasgow, that specializes in sherry bombs.
Technically the spirit is distilled in the Highlands and matured (across the street) in the Lowlands. technically in the Scottish Highlands. The 21 is aged in ex-sherry, and you get plenty of it on the nose and palate. The whisky retails for $200 at K&L, not bad for a 21 year old spirit.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Sherry, sherry, and some more sherry. Dried plums, green apple. Palate: Sherry definitely carries through. Mineral water, caramelized green apples, strawberry shortcake.
