Next Stop Havana

Next Stop Havana is a rum old fashioned featuring muscovado sugar and Havana Club 7.

Unrefined cane sugar with a high molasses content, muscovado was considered the lowest quality sugar in the 19th century. If you like rich, toffee and nut flavors, and if you’re looking for something complex to pair with a great spirit its unbeatable. Most muscovado syrup is produced in Mauritius, the French territory off the coast of Africa. It’s relatively easy to find in baking isles in super markets, or online through Amazon.

Havana Club 7 year aged rum is smooth with a rich creamy finish. It has heavy tobacco and cigar flavors, and is a great sipping rum. Owing to the US’s 50 year old embargo with Cuba, Havana Club can’t be imported into the US. Outside the US, the rum is affordable and ubiquitous. Havana Club is half owned by Pernod Ricard, the large spirits producer, and half owned by the Cuban government. The rum’s trademark is disputed by Bacardi, which petitioned the US government to pass a law protecting trademarks of companies siezed by the Cuban government (which nationalized Bacardi’s assets in Cuba after the revolution).
