The Islay Word

After getting back from Cuba, which involved copious amounts of tiki-style sweeter drinks, I wanted nothing more than smoky-bacon, peaty, dog-foot Laphroaig. We drank several pours neat and then out to explore some additional cocktails that contained a fair amount of Laphroiag. 

Our attempts at our own creations didn’t turn out very well – Laphroaig is very dominant and can easily overwhelm other components.

So we turned to the internet.

We tried the Laphroaig Project (another article upcoming) and tried a few variants with a hint of Laphroaig, but we wanted something that contained more than a trace amount of the peaty, smokey scotch. We stumbled on the Islay Word from Vic’s New York and found it delicious! If you like the classic Last Word, you’ll enjoy it.

Ingredients

  • .75 oz Laphroaig
  • .75 oz Green Chartreuse
  • .75 oz Lime Juice
  • .75 oz Maraschino Liqueur

Glass

Cocktail Glass

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients into cocktail shaker
  • Shake well
  • Double strain into cocktial glass
  • Garnish with a lime twist
