After much internal debate, I decided to pony up the $10 for Gaz Regan’s cocktail app (only on iPhone at the moment). After spending ten minutes painstakingly cataloging the home bar I looked for something new to make. Apparently I could only make about 10% of the 500 recipes! The app features an array of cocktails made in the last few years.
The Lion and the Rose was the first of three cocktails that specified Lagavulin 16, the smooth, slightly sweet Islay Whisk. It was also the only one I could make with my current stock! The drink was created by Samuel Tripet and Lily Blacks from Melbourne Australia.
The Lion & Rose combines peaty scotch, complex Amaro Montenegro, and Dolin dry vermouth to create a wonderfully balanced drink in classic negroni proportions.
Or as Gaz puts it” Kindly excuse a little blasphemy here: Jesus Christ Almighty, this is one incredibly fabulous drink. I could sip on these all night. As long as I sipped them slowly, of course, and that’s near as damn it impossible.”
