Twelve Mile Limit

At the start of Prohibition, you could travel three miles from the shores of the US and be in territorial waters and free to drink booze. Alcohol-deprived denizens used to take ships out to sea, get wrecked, and return to shores. In response, in Congress’ infinite wisdom, the limit was quadrupled to 12 miles, and this cocktail was created by journalist Tommy Millard in response. The drink features a triple base of rum, rye, and brandy with lemon juice for sour and grenadine for sweet.

A lot of grenadine is terrible, and would recommend making your own. making 1:1 POM Wonderful to sugar makes a delicious, not cloyingly sweet cocktail.
