Ichor and Glass

Blood and Sand (scotch, orange juice, cherry liqueur, and sweet vermouth) was one of the first cocktails we learned how to make, albeit at a casual weekend cocktail class… and we were using colored water instead of the real components. When we finally tried it, it was… weird. And way too sweet. Orange juice with scotch isn’t great. Since then, every time I see articles declaring how awful bartenders find Blood and Sand cocktails are (example here, here, and here), I nod emphatically.

But when I ran across the Ichor and Glass on Imbibe (created by Ryan Casey of Dewberry), I thought it was brilliant. Substitute out the orange juice for orange-infused scotch (such as Drambuie) and Dry Curacao? Brilliant. The result is still a bit on the sweeter side for me, but it is an excellent cocktail.
