Dosage is the practice of adding sugar to an alcoholic spirit. Dosage is common in Champagne (brut, demi sec, etc. delineate how much sugar is added), and in some styles of rum. Is adding sugar to rum a good thing? Depends, and it’s very subjective, methinks. I think El Dorado is better by virtue of having sugar in the finished product. I think Diplomatico goes overboard, and it appeals to newer rum drinkers and turns off many, more-seasoned rum drinkers.
