Review #87: Virginia Distilling Brewers Batch

We were introduced to Virginia Distilling through their… Scotch? Many distilleries kickstart their operations from sourcing whiskey. It takes a few years before you can legally classify whiskey as bourbon, and whitedog is generally pretty bad stuff. The good Virginia folks decided to source whisky from Scotland to get things off the ground and we scored the result a very strong 7.5.

The late distiller George G. Moore was a big proponent of single malt when he arrived from Ireland in the 70s. He got the distillery off the ground in 2011, before passing away and leaving the company to his wife and sons. The distillery’s whiskies are just coming online now, and we sat down to try a flight in Chicago’s Untitled Supper Club.

The whisky is 100% malt, and is a blend of sourced Scottish whisky and some distilled on site. It’s finished for a year in casks that used to hold ale from the local Three Notch’d Brewing.
